Manitoba has one of the longest heating seasons in southern Canada, and its HVAC market reflects that. Gas still heats about half the province's homes, electricity a third, and Efficiency Manitoba had heat-pump rebates open as of October 2026. For a performance-based partnership, that mix is workable but needs care: gas replacement demand and rebate-led heat-pump demand rise and fall for different reasons, so we would track them as separate streams.
To be clear about roles: we are not an HVAC contractor. We market and advise; we never install, repair or service equipment.
The Manitoba HVAC market
Winnipeg holds most of Manitoba's HVAC demand, with Brandon, Steinbach, Winkler, Portage la Prairie and Thompson as the main centres beyond it. Steinbach and Winkler are growing southern communities; Thompson serves a large northern area.
In 2023, Statistics Canada counted 52% of Manitoba households heating mainly with natural gas and 33% with electricity. The electric share matters: homes on electric furnaces or baseboards are the natural audience for heat-pump programs, which gives Manitoba companies a second growth line next to furnace replacement.
Seasonality and a fair baseline
A long, very cold winter means the heating season shapes most of the year's numbers, and cold spells can swamp any marketing effect. The baseline has to compare like periods.
Here is a worked example. Say your Winnipeg company averages 40 furnace replacements in a normal January and 12 heat-pump installs. A brutal cold week might add 15 emergency calls without any change in marketing. If the partnership counted all calls as one number, that week would look like a 30% win. Split into emergency calls, planned replacements and heat-pump installs, the picture is honest. Our guide to measuring results shows how we set those categories up.
Regulators to know
In Manitoba, gas and oil work and electrician licensing sit with the Office of the Fire Commissioner; we summarise and link, and we don't advise on compliance.
- The Office of the Fire Commissioner, through Inspection and Technical Services, handles gas and oil-burning equipment permits and tradesperson licensing, boilers and pressure vessels, and electrician licences. Re-verify current scope with the OFC.
- Apprenticeship Manitoba handles trade certification.
- WCB Manitoba covers workers' compensation.
Accurate licence statements belong on your website and in your ads. Confirm your own obligations with each body.
Programs, as of October 2026
Manitoba has open heat-pump rebates and a federal-provincial no-cost retrofit program, both of which shape demand. Confirm current terms with Efficiency Manitoba before advertising them.
- The Efficiency Manitoba Air Source Heat Pump Rebate offers $2,000 for a centrally ducted cold-climate unit or $1,500 for ductless in existing primary residences, with a registered-supplier bonus for applications that include an F280 heat-load calculation before 2027-03-31.
- The Affordable Home Energy Program offers free heat pumps for qualifying electrically heated homes through registered contractors; current eligibility was not re-confirmed.
- Manitoba was the first province with a Canada Greener Homes Affordability Program agreement, announced 2025-09-12 and delivered by Efficiency Manitoba.
The 2027-03-31 bonus deadline is exactly the kind of date we would mark in a baseline, because enquiries can bunch up before it and thin out after.
How we would approach a Manitoba partnership
We would treat gas and heat pumps as two measured streams under one written agreement.
- Baseline each stream: emergency calls, planned gas replacements and heat-pump installs.
- Map the program calendar, noting deadlines and changes that could move heat-pump demand.
- Set up tracking so each call, text and booked job is tagged to a stream; see baseline and tracking.
- Agree the terms in writing, including how cold weeks and rebate changes are handled.
- Build the channels, with website and call conversion work early, because rebate-curious callers need clear answers fast.
Partnerships are limited. If a fixed fee suits you better, see pricing, or contact us by call, text or email.
Frequently asked questions
Would a partnership in Manitoba focus on gas or heat pumps?
Often both, measured separately. Gas is still the main heating fuel for about half of households, while Efficiency Manitoba's heat pump rebates create a distinct stream of enquiries with its own season and job value.
What happens to a partnership if a rebate changes?
We note the date and adjust how that stream is compared. The written terms for each partnership set out how program changes are treated, so neither side is surprised.
Do you only work in Winnipeg?
No. We work across Manitoba, but Brandon, Steinbach and Winkler have smaller search volumes, so we check whether there is enough activity to measure before proposing a partnership.
